The game introduced an improved pass system, emphasizing realism and strategy by making ball distribution more tactical and precise. Player animations were enhanced, and a fatigue system was implemented, affecting player stamina and performance throughout the match. FIFA 2002 was the first in the series to feature a qualification mode for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, allowing players to guide their national team from the qualifiers to the tournament. The game included over 75 national teams as well as various club teams with officially licensed rosters. The soundtrack was headlined by "19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)" by Gorillaz, making it one of the most memorable FIFA soundtracks. FIFA Football 2002 was released on PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Windows, and GameCube, offering one of the most innovative football simulations of the early 2000s.
