The 1990 American crime action film directed by Warren Beatty is based on the 1930s comic strip created by Chester Gould. The film follows detective Dick Tracy (Warren Beatty) as he battles the criminal underworld led by Alphonse "Big Boy" Caprice (Al Pacino). Tracy confronts various criminals, including Flattop (William Forsythe), Itchy (Ed O'Ross), and Mumbles (Dustin Hoffman), in his quest to rid the city of crime. In his personal life, the detective is torn between his affection for loyal girlfriend Tess Trueheart (Glenne Headly) and the allure of seductive singer Breathless Mahoney (Madonna), who performs at a club owned by Caprice. The film is renowned for its stylized visual design, capturing the essence of the original comics through a limited color palette and vibrant costumes. The soundtrack was composed by Danny Elfman, with Madonna performing several songs, including "Sooner or Later," which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The film received seven Oscar nominations, winning three, including Best Makeup and Best Art Direction. Despite its commercial success, a sequel was never produced due to legal disputes over the character's rights.
