The 2017 American fantasy action film directed by David Ayer and written by Max Landis presents an alternate version of modern-day Los Angeles, where humans coexist with mythical creatures such as orcs, elves, and fairies. In this world, magic is real but strictly prohibited, and magic wands can only be safely wielded by a select few known as "Brights." The protagonist, LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Will Smith), returns to duty after being wounded and is partnered with Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), the first orc police officer. Their relationship is strained due to prejudice and mistrust from both colleagues and society. During a night patrol, they encounter an elf named Tikka (Lucy Fry) possessing a magic wand, pursued by the dark elf Leilah (Noomi Rapace) and her followers, who seek to use the wand to resurrect the Dark Lord and establish elven dominance. Ward and Jakoby must overcome personal differences and unite to protect Tikka and prevent catastrophe. The film explores themes of racial discrimination, social injustice, and corruption, intertwined with elements of magic and fantasy. Despite negative critical reviews, "Bright" became one of Netflix's most-watched original films, garnering over 11 million views in the U.S. within its first three days of release.
