Frank Film

A 1973 American animated short film directed by Frank and Caroline Mouris, recognized for its experimental approach that combines visual collage and dual narration to create a unique artistic experience. The film comprises a collage of 11,592 images cut from magazines, collected over five years, and animated at a rapid pace to produce a visual stream that is accompanied by two audio tracks. The first audio track features an autobiographical narration by Frank Mouris, detailing his life from birth to becoming an artist, sharing memories of his childhood, family, education, and professional journey. The second audio track consists of a stream of words beginning with the letter "F," which relate to the images on screen, the narrative of the first track, or are unrelated, creating an associative sequence. The soundtrack was conceived and created by Tony Schwartz, adding an additional layer to the film's perception. "Frank Film" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1974 and was inducted into the United States National Film Registry in 1996 for being culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant. The film also received the Annecy Cristal at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and was praised by critics for its innovation and artistic value.​
