A first-person shooter that launched the legendary Halo franchise, developed by Bungie and released as an exclusive launch title for the Xbox. Set in the year 2552, humanity is engaged in a war against the powerful alien Covenant. Players assume the role of the supersoldier Master Chief, who, alongside his AI companion Cortana, finds himself on the mysterious ring world known as Halo. As he explores this artificial structure, he encounters an ancient threat—the parasitic Flood—and must prevent the activation of a superweapon capable of wiping out all life in the galaxy. The game introduced groundbreaking mechanics for console shooters, including intelligent enemy AI, balanced weaponry, expansive open-ended levels, and vehicular combat. The campaign supports both solo and cooperative play, while its split-screen and LAN multiplayer laid the foundation for future online battles in the series. Halo: Combat Evolved became a cultural phenomenon, set new standards for the FPS genre, and played a crucial role in establishing the Xbox as a major gaming platform. It was later remastered as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary for Xbox 360 and included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Windows and Xbox One.
