Highlander II: The Quickening

The 1991 science fiction action film directed by Russell Mulcahy is a sequel to the 1986 film "Highlander". Set in 2024, Earth faces a global catastrophe due to the destruction of the ozone layer. Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), who became mortal after the events of the first film, lives in solitude and suffers from the loss of his immortality. He and Professor Allan Neyman (John C. McGinley) develop an energy shield to protect the planet from solar radiation, but the shield falls under the control of a corporation that exploits it for profit. Soon, General Katana (Michael Ironside) arrives from the planet Zeist to eliminate MacLeod. MacLeod regains his powers and immortality, and resurrects his mentor Juan Ramírez (Sean Connery), with whom he teams up to destroy the shield and defeat Katana. The film received negative reviews from critics, particularly for altering the original mythology and weak visual effects. Subsequently, an alternative cut titled the "Renegade Version" was released, which changed the immortals' backstory, removing science fiction elements.
