The 1986 American-British fantasy action film directed by Russell Mulcahy follows Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), a 16th-century Scottish Highlander who discovers his immortality after surviving a fatal battle wound. Banished from his clan, he is mentored by Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez (Sean Connery), a Spanish swordsman who teaches him that immortals can only die by decapitation, with the victor absorbing the loser's power. In 1985 New York City, MacLeod, living under the alias Russell Nash, works as an antiques dealer and prepares for the final confrontation with the Kurgan (Clancy Brown), a brutal immortal seeking the "Prize" — the combined power of all immortals. Simultaneously, he develops a relationship with forensic scientist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart), who is investigating a series of mysterious beheadings. The film blends elements of fantasy, action, and romance, exploring themes of immortality, love, and destiny. The soundtrack features compositions by Michael Kamen and the band Queen, including the song "Princes of the Universe". Although it had moderate success in the U.S., the film gained a cult following and spawned a franchise including sequels and television series.
