The 2012 American biographical romantic drama directed by Sacha Gervasi is based on Stephen Rebello's book "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho." The film portrays the period in director Alfred Hitchcock's (Anthony Hopkins) life and his relationship with his wife, Alma Reville (Helen Mirren), during the production of the iconic thriller "Psycho" in 1959. Facing criticism and doubts about his relevance, Hitchcock decides to adapt Robert Bloch's novel, inspired by the crimes of Ed Gein. When the studio refuses to fund the project, Hitchcock mortgages his house to finance the film independently. Alma, despite her own creative aspirations and strained relationship with her husband, supports him, contributing significantly to the film's creation. The production process involves conflicts, including tense interactions with actress Janet Leigh (Scarlett Johansson) and actor Anthony Perkins (James D'Arcy), as well as Hitchcock's internal struggles with obsession and insecurity.
