Intolerable Cruelty

The 2003 American romantic comedy directed by Joel Coen, with a screenplay by Robert Ramsey, Matthew Stone, Joel and Ethan Coen, follows Miles Massey (George Clooney), a successful Los Angeles divorce attorney known for his ironclad "Massey prenup." His life takes a turn when he meets Marylin Rexroth (Catherine Zeta-Jones), a beautiful and cunning gold-digger. After Miles wins a case against her, Marylin plots revenge by marrying oil tycoon Howard D. Doyle (Billy Bob Thornton). However, it's revealed that Howard is merely an actor hired to deceive Miles. The plot thickens when Miles learns that Marylin has inherited her ex-husband's fortune, making her wealthier than him. In a desperate move to protect his reputation, Miles hires a hitman to eliminate Marylin, but a series of comedic mishaps leads to the hitman's accidental death. Ultimately, Miles and Marylin recognize their genuine feelings for each other and decide to leave their scheming ways behind.
