The 1995 American fantasy adventure film directed by Joe Johnston is an adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's book of the same name. The story begins in 1869, when two boys bury the mysterious game "Jumanji" to prevent anyone from playing it. A century later, in 1969, young Alan Parrish (Adam Hann-Byrd) discovers the game and starts playing with his friend Sarah Whittle (Laura Bell Bundy). After the first move, Alan is sucked into the game, and Sarah flees in terror. Twenty-six years later, in 1995, orphans Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter Shepherd (Bradley Pierce) move into the Parrish house and find "Jumanji." Upon starting the game, they release adult Alan (Robin Williams) from captivity. Now, they must finish the game to restore everything to normal. Along the way, they face various dangers, including wild animals, floods, and the hunter Van Pelt (Jonathan Hyde). The film combines elements of fantasy and adventure, exploring themes of friendship, courage, and family values.
