The 1985 American epic dark fantasy film directed by Ridley Scott and written by William Hjortsberg follows Jack (Tom Cruise), a young forest dweller who must stop the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) from destroying the last unicorns and plunging the world into eternal night. Princess Lili (Mia Sara), an innocent and curious noblewoman, inadvertently becomes part of Darkness's plan when her touch allows goblins to poison and kill a unicorn, leading to a perpetual winter. Jack, accompanied by elf Honeythorn Gump (David Bennent), fairy Oona (Alice Playten), and dwarfs Brown Tom (Cork Hubbert) and Screwball (Billy Barty), embarks on a perilous quest to rescue Lili, retrieve the unicorn's horn, and defeat Darkness. Their journey includes confronting the swamp hag Meg Mucklebones, whom Jack defeats, and infiltrating Darkness's castle, where Lili, under enchantment, agrees to participate in a ritual to kill the last unicorn. Utilizing mirrors to channel sunlight into the dark lair, Jack and his companions ambush Darkness, ultimately defeating him and banishing him into the void. The unicorn is revived, winter ends, and Jack returns Lili's ring, symbolizing the restoration of light and order to the world.
