The 1980 British television miniseries, directed by Donald McWhinnie with a screenplay by Simon Raven, is based on Nancy Mitford's novels "The Pursuit of Love" (1945) and "Love in a Cold Climate" (1949). Set between 1924 and 1940, the series explores the lives of the English aristocracy between the two World Wars. Central to the narrative are two cousins, Fanny Logan (Isabelle Amyes) and Linda Radlett (Lucy Gutteridge), whose paths diverge as Fanny leads a quiet life while Linda seeks love and adventure, facing disappointments and tragedies. The cast also includes Judi Dench (Aunt Sadie), Michael Aldridge (Uncle Matthew), Michael Williams (Davey Warbeck), Rosalyn Landor (Polly Hampton), Jean-Pierre Cassel (Fabrice, Duc de Sauveterre), among others. The series comprises eight episodes with a total runtime of approximately 420 minutes and was produced by Thames Television for ITV. It received positive reviews for its accurate depiction of the era, well-developed characters, and high-quality performances.
