A 2021 American computer-animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Directed by Enrico Casarosa in his feature-length directorial debut, the screenplay was written by Jesse Andrews and Mike Jones. Set in the 1950s–1960s in the seaside town of Portorosso on the Italian Riviera, the story follows a young sea monster named Luca Paguro (voiced by Jacob Tremblay), who can take human form when on land. Despite warnings from his parents, Daniela (Maya Rudolph) and Lorenzo (Jim Gaffigan), Luca is irresistibly curious about the human world. One day, he meets another sea monster, Alberto Scorfano (Jack Dylan Grazer), who lives on the surface and encourages Luca to explore the land. Together, they venture into Portorosso, where they befriend a girl named Giulia Marcovaldo (Emma Berman), an energetic and friendly local. The trio decides to participate in the local triathlon to win money to buy a Vespa—a symbol of freedom and adventure for Luca and Alberto. However, they must conceal their true identities from the townsfolk, especially the arrogant and conceited Ercole Visconti (Saverio Raimondo), a multiple-time race champion. The film explores themes of friendship, self-acceptance, and overcoming prejudice, depicting how Luca learns to embrace his dual nature and appreciate the diversity of the world around him.
