The 1986 Franco-British comedy-drama directed by Conny Templeman, co-written with Antoine Lacomblez, follows the journey of Nanou (Imogen Stubbs), a young English photography student who, in the 1970s, travels across Europe seeking adventure. After a brief stay in Switzerland, she chooses to settle in France, where she meets Luc (Jean-Philippe Écoffey), a passionate worker involved in radical left-wing activism. Drawn to his fervor and ideals, Nanou becomes entangled in his underground activities, including acts of sabotage and extremism. As she immerses herself in this new life, she distances herself from her past and family. However, her relationship with Luc becomes strained when she discovers his involvement in terrorist acts, jeopardizing both their bond and her own safety. The situation intensifies with the arrival of her former lover Max (Daniel Day-Lewis), who attempts to rekindle their relationship and pull her back into her previous life. The film delves into themes of personal freedom, political ideology, and self-identity against the backdrop of the social and cultural upheavals of 1970s Europe. The cast also includes Michel Robin as Mr. Henry, Lou Castel as an Italian activist, and Anna Cropper as Nanou's mother. The film's score was composed by John E. Keane, with cinematography by Martin Fuhrer. Despite its limited release, the film was noted for its deep psychological portrayal of the protagonist and its atmospheric depiction of the era.
