Oblivion

A 2013 American science fiction film directed by Joseph Kosinski, with a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek and Michael deBruyn, based on Kosinski's graphic novel of the same name. Set in 2077, 60 years after a devastating war with aliens that left Earth desolate, the protagonist, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), works as a technician maintaining drones that protect massive machines extracting water for a human colony on Titan, Saturn's moon. His partner and lover, Victoria "Vika" Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), handles communication with command. Jack is haunted by mysterious dreams of a woman at the Empire State Building's observation deck before the war. One day, he discovers a crashed NASA spacecraft and rescues a survivor, Julia Rusakova (Olga Kurylenko), who turns out to be his pre-war wife. This revelation leads Jack to realize that everything he knew about the war and his mission was a lie. He encounters human survivors led by Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman) and learns that an alien entity known as the "Tet" is using him and other clones to eradicate humanity and drain Earth's resources. Jack decides to destroy the "Tet," sacrificing himself by delivering a bomb onboard, ending the exploitation of Earth.
