The 2018 American science fiction action film directed by Travis Knight serves as a spin-off and prequel to the "Transformers" film series. Set in 1987, the film follows Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Dylan O'Brien) as he hides on Earth after the Autobots' defeat in the war on Cybertron. He finds refuge in California, where, damaged and suffering from memory loss, he transforms into a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. Teenager Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld), coping with her father's death and seeking independence, discovers Bumblebee in a junkyard and restores him. A strong bond forms between them as Charlie helps Bumblebee regain his memory. Meanwhile, two Decepticons, Shatter (voiced by Angela Bassett) and Dropkick (voiced by Justin Theroux), arrive on Earth searching for Bumblebee, aiming to learn the whereabouts of the remaining Autobots. They deceive Sector 7, a military organization led by Agent Jack Burns (John Cena), into believing Bumblebee is a threat, leading to a joint effort to capture him. Charlie and her neighbor Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) assist Bumblebee in evading capture, but he is eventually apprehended. Shatter and Dropkick plan to use Sector 7's satellite network to summon Decepticon reinforcements to destroy Earth. Charlie and Memo infiltrate Sector 7's base and free Bumblebee. In the final battle, Bumblebee defeats Shatter and Dropkick, thwarting their plan. Charlie realizes the need to let go of the past and bids farewell to Bumblebee, who transforms into a Chevrolet Camaro and sets off, hinting at connections to future events in the series.
