A standalone expansion to Painkiller, developed by Med-Art. This time, players once again step into the shoes of William Sherman, a former CIA agent who continues his battle in Purgatory against endless waves of demons. The gameplay remains true to the series’ fast-paced and brutal combat, but the game consists almost entirely of wave-based fights, trapping players in arenas where they must eliminate hundreds of enemies. Painkiller: Recurring Evil features five new levels with a dark aesthetic, as well as returning weapons from previous installments. However, the game received negative reviews due to its repetitiveness, weak level design, lack of innovation, and outdated graphics. Many critics and players considered it the weakest entry in the series. Painkiller: Recurring Evil is available exclusively on Windows.
