Painkiller: Resurrection

A standalone expansion to Painkiller, developed by Homegrown Games, continuing the series' traditions but with several gameplay changes. Players take on the role of William Sherman, a former CIA agent who dies in a terrorist attack and, due to his own mistakes, ends up in Purgatory. Now, he must fight demonic forces and seek redemption. The game features six new levels, reworked enemy AI, and an attempt to introduce more open environments compared to previous entries. However, these changes backfired—levels felt empty and dragged-out, while the game suffered from numerous bugs and poor optimization. Painkiller: Resurrection received mostly negative reviews due to weak level design, a lackluster story, and serious technical issues. The game is available exclusively on Windows.
