An action role-playing game with open-world elements, developed by Russian studio Akella and published by 1C, Bethesda Softworks, and Ubisoft in 2003 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox platforms. Originally developed as "Sea Dogs 2," a sequel to the 2000 game "Sea Dogs," the project was renamed "Pirates of the Caribbean" during development to coincide with the release of the film of the same name. However, the game's storyline is only loosely connected to the movie, aside from the inclusion of the ship "Black Pearl" and cursed pirates. Players control Captain Nathaniel Hawk, who undertakes various missions on behalf of the English governor, explores the Caribbean archipelago, engages in naval battles, boarding actions, trade, and diplomacy. Gameplay combines sea and land combat, character and crew development, and a reputation system that affects interactions with non-player characters. The game utilizes the Storm 2.0 engine, providing 3D graphics and realistic naval combat physics.
