Platoon

A 1986 war drama based on director Oliver Stone’s personal experiences serving in Vietnam. The protagonist, Private Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), volunteers for the war, hoping to find a sense of purpose. However, he soon faces not only the brutality of combat but also internal conflicts within his own platoon. Two sergeants—ruthless and unforgiving Barnes (Tom Berenger) and morally principled Elias (Willem Dafoe)—embody opposing views on war and human nature. Under their influence, Chris must make a choice that will change his life forever. The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and is regarded as one of the greatest anti-war films in cinematic history.
