A 1972 war drama based on the novel of the same name by Boris Vasilyev. The film is set in 1942 during the height of World War II. In a remote forest garrison, Sergeant Vaskov (Andrei Martynov) commands an anti-aircraft unit composed of young female soldiers. One day, they discover a German sabotage group infiltrating Soviet territory. Despite being outnumbered, Vaskov and his soldiers engage in a desperate battle. The film portrays the tragedy of war through the fates of these young women, highlighting their bravery, self-sacrifice, and the heavy cost of defending their homeland. The movie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and remains one of the most iconic works of Soviet cinema.
