Ready Player One

A 2018 American science fiction adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. The story is set in 2045, where the world is in chaos and economic decline, and people find solace in a virtual reality called the OASIS. The creator of the OASIS, eccentric genius James Halliday (Mark Rylance), leaves a message after his death that he has hidden an "Easter egg" in the game, which will grant full control of the OASIS and his vast fortune to whoever finds it. The protagonist, teenager Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), known in the game as Parzival, joins the race for this prize. He is aided by friends: Samantha Cook, aka Art3mis (Olivia Cooke), Helen Harris, aka Aech (Lena Waithe), as well as Daito (Philip Zhao) and Sho (Win Morisaki). They are opposed by ruthless corporate leader Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn), head of IOI, who seeks to take control of the OASIS for his own benefit. The film is filled with numerous references to 1980s and 1990s pop culture, combining elements of adventure, science fiction, and thriller.
