Robotics

An engineering and scientific-technical practice focused on designing, building, programming, and operating automated machines — robots, which began to form in the mid-20th century with the development of electronics, cybernetics, and control systems, though its roots can be traced to ancient mechanisms, medieval automata, and Leonardo da Vinci's inventions. Modern robotics integrates mechanics, electrical engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence, encompassing fields such as industrial robots, service robots, medical robots, exploration robots, agricultural robots, educational and entertainment robots. Robotics is used in manufacturing to enhance efficiency and safety, as well as in space exploration, underwater missions, rescue operations, and smart home technologies. The practice involves modeling, assembling, sensor integration, control algorithms, and learning systems. Key milestones include the creation of Unimate robotic arms (1961), development of ASIMO and Boston Dynamics robots, robotic participation in NASA's Mars rover missions, rise of educational robotics (LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino, VEX), and deployment of collaborative robots (cobots). Robotics has become a vital component of education and engineering competitions such as FIRST Robotics, RoboCup, and the World Robot Olympiad, fostering teamwork, logic, programming, and engineering skills.
