A 2013 American biographical drama directed in the USA, UK, and Australia by John Lee Hancock. The film depicts Walt Disney's (Tom Hanks) efforts to secure the film rights to the book "Mary Poppins" from its author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson). In 1961, financially struggling Travers agrees to travel to Los Angeles to discuss a potential adaptation. However, she is highly reluctant to cooperate, fearing Disney will turn her serious work into a superficial musical. During negotiations, Travers recalls her childhood in Australia, where her father (Colin Farrell) struggled with alcoholism and died of tuberculosis, profoundly influencing her writing. These memories help Disney understand that "Mary Poppins" is not just a story for Travers but a means to preserve her father's memory. Gradually, mutual understanding develops, and Travers consents to the adaptation. The film also features Paul Giamatti as driver Ralph, Bradley Whitford as screenwriter Don DaGradi, and Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak as composers Richard and Robert Sherman. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score.
