A Soviet TV series first released in 1973, based on the novel of the same name by Yulian Semyonov. The story is set in the final months of World War II, in 1945. Soviet intelligence officer Maxim Isaev, also known as Stirlitz (Vyacheslav Tikhonov), operates undercover in Nazi Germany under the identity of Max Otto von Stirlitz, an SS officer. His primary mission is to investigate whether top Nazi officials are secretly negotiating with the West and to prevent any potential separate peace between Germany and the United States. Key figures in his mission include the wife of a Soviet agent, Kat (Eleonora Shashkova), Pastor Schlag (Rostislav Plyatt), and Gestapo chief Heinrich Müller (Leonid Bronevoy). The series became a cult classic due to its intense plot, outstanding performances, and the iconic music composed by Mikael Tariverdiev.
