The 1996 Australian teen drama television series, created by John Rapsey and directed by Steve Jodrell, Dan Burstall, Malcolm McDonald, Karl Zwicky, and Ross Hutchens, follows the lives of students at the fictional Sports West Academy in Perth, Australia. The narrative centers on a group of young athletes striving for success in various disciplines, including track and field, swimming, and cycling. The main characters face personal and professional challenges, such as pressure from coaches, competition, first romantic relationships, and the search for their own paths. Among the characters are Tom Nash (Martin Henderson), a talented runner dealing with family issues; Tatyana "Tats" Alecsandri (Inge Hornstra), a gymnast struggling with parental expectations; and Snowy Bowles (Heath Ledger), a young cyclist who openly identifies as gay, making him one of the first such characters in Australian teen television. The series is also notable for being Heath Ledger's first regular television role. Filming took place in various Perth locations, including HBF Stadium and the now-defunct Perry Lakes Stadium. Despite positive reviews, the series was canceled after one season comprising 26 episodes.
