The fifth main entry in the legendary Tekken fighting game series, developed and published by Namco, Tekken 5 marked a return to classic mechanics after the experimental changes in Tekken 4. Initially released in arcades in 2004 and later ported to PlayStation 2 in 2005, the game received high praise for its refined gameplay, graphics, and expansive character roster. The story follows the events of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, which begins after Heihachi Mishima's defeat. The game features many returning classic fighters, including Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, and Paul Phoenix, alongside new characters such as Raven, Feng Wei, and Azazel. The gameplay was made faster and more dynamic, removing environmental interactions and restoring traditional sidestepping and combo mechanics. The graphics saw a major improvement with a new engine, delivering highly detailed 3D models and smooth animations. Tekken 5 also introduced the Devil Within mode, an action-platformer experience starring Jin Kazama. The PlayStation 2 version included arcade versions of Tekken, Tekken 2, and Tekken 3. With its balanced gameplay, large character selection, and return to classic mechanics, Tekken 5 is widely regarded as one of the best entries in the series.
