The Circle​

A 2017 American techno-thriller directed by James Ponsoldt, with a screenplay co-written by Ponsoldt and Dave Eggers, based on Eggers's 2013 novel of the same name. The film follows Mae Holland (Emma Watson), a young woman who lands a job at the powerful tech company "The Circle," led by the charismatic Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks). The company promotes the idea of complete transparency and constant surveillance as a means to improve society. Mae quickly rises through the ranks, becoming the face of a new initiative involving 24/7 live video streaming. However, as she becomes more immersed in the company's culture, Mae begins to uncover the darker aspects of total control, including invasions of privacy and manipulation of public opinion. Her internal conflict intensifies after tragic events involving her friend Mercer (Ellar Coltrane), leading her to choose between loyalty to the company and the protection of individual freedoms. The film also stars John Boyega (Ty), Karen Gillan (Annie), Patton Oswalt (Tom Stenton), Glenne Headly, and Bill Paxton.
