The Housemaid

A 2025 psychological thriller with an erotic line, directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine. A young woman with a difficult past takes work as a maid in a wealthy household and gradually becomes certain that the balance of power inside the family that hired her is not what it looks like from outside. From there the film follows the rules of the domestic thriller: the threat comes from the near circle, and events stay within the walls of the house and a narrow set of people. The closed grounds of the mansion, the heroine's position as staff and the gap in power between employers and servants carry the tension, and the erotic line is part of that same structure of dependence. The source is Freida McFadden's novel The Housemaid, published in 2022, which sold heavily and drew sequels that grew into a whole cycle. Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried take the leading parts, with Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Megan Ferguson and Ellen Tamaki alongside them. For Paul Feig, known above all for the comedies Bridesmaids, Spy and The Heat, this is a change of register: he had come to the thriller once before, with A Simple Favor. Todd Lieberman produced and Theodore Shapiro wrote the score. The first release date is 19 December 2025, followed by 25 December 2025 and by 8 and 15 January 2026, which carried the international run.
