The Last Time I Committed Suicide

In 1950 Neal Cassady wrote a letter to Jack Kerouac. Stephen T. Kay turned that letter into an American drama film, released in 1997. The story follows young Neal Cassady (Thomas Jane) in 1946 as he navigates his passionate yet troubled relationship with his lover Joan (Claire Forlani), who struggles with emotional turmoil and attempts suicide. His life is also influenced by his friendship with the charismatic yet self-destructive Harry (Keanu Reeves), whose reckless actions push Neal to question his own path. The film also features Adrien Brody as Ben and Gretchen Mol as Mary. Set in post-war America, the film explores themes of love, self-destruction, personal discovery, and the pursuit of freedom.
