An American science fiction action film from 1994, directed by Peter Hyams. The plot follows police officer Max Walker (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who, in 1994, becomes an agent of the newly established Time Enforcement Commission (TEC), an organization overseeing the use of time travel to prevent alterations to the past. Shortly after being offered the TEC position, Max witnesses the murder of his wife Melissa (Mia Sara) by unknown assailants, leaving him with guilt and a quest for justice. The narrative shifts to 2004, where Max, now a seasoned TEC agent, investigates cases of illegal time travel. He discovers that Senator Aaron McComb (Ron Silver) is exploiting time travel technology to fund his presidential campaign by manipulating past events for personal gain. Max journeys to various time periods, including 1929 during the stock market crash, to thwart crimes associated with temporal anomalies. Throughout his investigation, he faces numerous obstacles, including the betrayal of colleague Sarah Fielding (Gloria Reuben), who is revealed to be bribed by McComb. Max also learns that his wife Melissa was pregnant at the time of her death, intensifying his resolve to alter the past and save his family. The film's climax occurs when Max returns to 1994 to prevent Melissa's murder and expose McComb's crimes. He confronts both the younger and older versions of McComb, using knowledge of temporal paradoxes against them. As a result of his actions, the timeline is altered: McComb disappears, and Max returns to 2004 to find his wife and son alive, finally achieving the long-sought happiness. The film explores themes of moral dilemmas associated with time travel, governmental corruption, and personal responsibility, blending dynamic action sequences with the emotional depth of its characters.
