A 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Michael Schroeder. Set in 2074, the cybernetics market is dominated by two rival corporations: America's Pinwheel Robotics and Japan's Kobayashi Electronics. Cyborgs have become integral to society, serving various roles from soldiers to companions. Casella "Cash" Reese (Angelina Jolie) is a prototype cyborg developed by Pinwheel for corporate espionage and assassination. She is filled with a liquid explosive called "Glass Shadow," intended to be used as a living bomb to eliminate Kobayashi's board of directors and secure a monopoly on the cyborg market. However, Cash begins to experience human emotions and, upon learning of her intended fate, decides to escape. Her combat trainer, former prizefighter Colt 45 (Elias Koteas), falls in love with her and aids in her escape. The pair is pursued by a mercenary named Danny Baldwin (Billy Drago), hired by Pinwheel to capture them. Along their journey, they encounter a mysterious renegade cyborg named Mercy (Jack Palance), who provides them with information and resources for survival. Through intense chases and confrontations, Cash and Colt fight for freedom and the right to self-determination, grappling with questions of identity, humanity, and love in a world where the lines between man and machine are blurred. The film is notable for featuring an early role of Angelina Jolie and explores themes of corporate greed, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and the quest for self-awareness.
