Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry

The 2005 American animated action-adventure comedy film, directed by Bill Kopp, is the third direct-to-video feature starring Tom and Jerry, released in celebration of the duo's 65th anniversary since their debut in 1940. The story begins with Tom (voiced by Bill Kopp) and Jerry destroying their home during one of their classic chases, leading to their eviction by their owner. In search of new accommodation, they learn about a reality race show called the "Fabulous Super Race," where the winner is awarded a luxurious mansion. Determined to win, Tom and Jerry head to Globwobbler Studios in Hollywood, California, to enter the race. The rest of the field lines up like this: elderly Grammy with her dog Squirty; Gorthan, a florist who is also a dark lord; the superstar Steed Dirkly; "Soccer Mom," a single mother raising four children; and a scientist, Dr. Professor, who accidentally eliminates himself before the race due to a mishap with antimatter. The race kicks off in Hollywood and spans various locations such as Mexico, the Amazon jungle, Antarctica, Australia, and Borneo. Throughout the competition, participants face numerous challenges and modify their vehicles for travel across land, sea, and air. One by one, the racers are eliminated, leaving Tom and Jerry as the final contenders. In the last leg, they are required to traverse the globe in just five minutes using jet planes. Both cross the finish line simultaneously, resulting in a tie. The race organizer, Jacques "J.W." Wren, declares that a tiebreaker race must be held, as per the contract. Unwilling to continue, Tom and Jerry attack Wren and seize the keys to the mansion, deciding to share the prize. The film premiered in select U.S. theaters on September 3, 2005, followed by releases on VHS and DVD on October 11, 2005, and later on Blu-ray on April 5, 2011. It received mixed reviews from critics; while some praised its fast-paced plot and humor, others criticized it for predictability and repetitive gags.
