The fourth installment in the legendary arcade skateboarding series developed by Neversoft introduced significant changes to the gameplay structure by removing time limits from standard runs and allowing free exploration of levels. Players can choose from a roster of professional skateboarders, including Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, and Rodney Mullen, or create their own skater. The gameplay focuses on completing challenges, executing complex trick combos, and upgrading character stats. New mechanics such as the "spine transfer," which enables smoother transitions between ramps, were introduced alongside more difficult objectives and trick chains. The visuals received enhanced level detail, animations, and environmental interactions. The soundtrack featured tracks from AC/DC, The Offspring, Iron Maiden, and other iconic artists. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 was released on PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, and Game Boy Advance, marking the last game in the series to retain the traditional arcade-style gameplay before shifting towards a more realistic approach in later entries.
