The first game in the Tony Hawk’s series to introduce a story-driven campaign, where players create their own character and rise from a local street skater to a professional. Unlike previous entries, Tony Hawk’s Underground allows free exploration of levels, the ability to dismount from the skateboard, climb objects, and interact with the environment. The campaign features various missions involving trick challenges, police chases, competitions, and betrayal by a best friend. The game includes real-life skaters such as Tony Hawk, Chad Muska, and Bam Margera, along with extensive character and skateboard customization. The enhanced trick system introduced new mechanics like the wallplant and expanded combo opportunities. The soundtrack features punk, hip-hop, and metal tracks, including artists like KISS, Nas, and The Clash. Tony Hawk’s Underground was released on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, later adapted for Game Boy Advance.
