An American video game developed by Neversoft in 2007, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground is the ninth and final installment in the Tony Hawk’s series before the franchise transitioned to new gameplay mechanics. The game features a nonlinear career mode, allowing players to choose one of three distinct playstyles: "Hardcore", focusing on technical tricks and competitions; "Rigger", which lets players modify the environment and create skate-friendly areas; and "Career Filmer", where players can record and edit trick videos. For the first time in the series, players can build custom skate zones and use an expanded Nail the Trick system. The gameplay leans toward realism, with an increased number of interactive objects and the introduction of the "Aggro Kick" mechanic, which enables faster acceleration. Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS, receiving mixed reviews. While praised for its large environments and refined physics, the game was criticized for its overwhelming mechanics and lack of innovation compared to competitors like EA’s Skate.
