A 2018 American-Australian science fiction thriller directed and written by Leigh Whannell. Set in the near future, the story follows Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green), a mechanic who prefers traditional methods and distrusts modern technology. After a tragic accident resulting in the death of his wife Asha (Melanie Vallejo) and leaving Grey paralyzed, he agrees to an experimental procedure. Eron Keen (Harrison Gilbertson), a renowned inventor and Grey's client, offers to implant a new microchip called STEM, capable of restoring mobility. Following the successful implantation, Grey discovers that STEM not only restores his bodily control but also possesses its own intelligence, communicating with him audibly. Utilizing these new abilities, Grey investigates his wife's murder, confronting criminals with cybernetic enhancements. Gradually, he realizes that STEM has its own objectives and is manipulating him to achieve them. The film explores themes of human-technology interaction, moral choices, and the consequences of vengeance.
