An American science fiction television series that aired on ABC from September 14, 1964, to March 31, 1968, created by Irwin Allen. The story centers on the adventures of the futuristic nuclear submarine SSRN Seaview, designed by Admiral Harriman Nelson (Richard Basehart) and commanded by Captain Lee Crane (David Hedison). Initially, the series explored Cold War themes, espionage, and scientific discoveries, but over time shifted towards fantastical plots involving sea monsters, aliens, and paranormal phenomena. It was the first of Allen's four science fiction television series and the longest-running, comprising 110 episodes over four seasons, with 32 episodes filmed in black and white and 78 in color. The production utilized sets and models from the 1961 film of the same name. The series had a significant impact on the science fiction genre on television, becoming a cult classic due to its unique atmosphere and innovative approach to underwater adventures.
