Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

The 2016 American biographical war comedy-drama, directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and written by Robert Carlock, is based on Kim Barker's memoir "The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan." The film follows Kim Baker (Tina Fey), a television journalist from New York City who, dissatisfied with her career in 2003, decides to take on an assignment as a war correspondent in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. In Kabul, she moves into a shared residence for journalists, befriending BBC correspondent Tanya Vanderpoel (Margot Robbie) and Scottish photographer Iain MacKelpie (Martin Freeman), with whom she develops a romantic relationship. With the assistance of her Afghan fixer Fahim Ahmadzai (Christopher Abbott), Kim adapts to the new environment, facing dangers, cultural differences, and professional challenges. She conducts interviews with soldiers questioning their mission's value and risks her life to capture combat footage. Despite initial difficulties, Kim remains in Afghanistan for several years, encountering personal and professional trials, including a breakup with her boyfriend Chris (Josh Charles) and Iain's kidnapping. Ultimately, disillusioned with her work and relationships, she returns to the U.S. to continue her journalism career. The film blends elements of comedy and drama, exploring themes of culture shock, female identity, and the moral dilemmas of journalism in conflict zones.
