The 1970 American-Yugoslav war comedy film directed by Brian G. Hutton, with a screenplay by Troy Kennedy Martin, follows a group of American soldiers who embark on a daring heist during World War II. The protagonist, Sergeant Kelly (Clint Eastwood), a former lieutenant, learns from a German officer about Nazi gold stored behind enemy lines and assembles a team to steal it. Joining him are Sergeant "Big Joe" (Telly Savalas), arms dealer "Crapgame" (Don Rickles), and eccentric tank commander "Oddball" (Donald Sutherland). Facing challenges such as friendly fire and German resistance, the team reaches the town of Clermont, where the gold is guarded by three Tiger tanks. After tense negotiations with the German commander (Karl-Otto Alberty), they agree to split the loot. The film blends elements of war action, comedy, and adventure, satirizing the absurdity of war and bureaucracy. Filmed in Yugoslavia, the movie features a score composed by Lalo Schifrin. It has become a cult classic known for its vibrant characters and satirical take on military themes.
