A 1994 American romantic horror film directed by Mike Nichols and written by Jim Harrison and Wesley Strick, it follows New York publishing editor Will Randall (Jack Nicholson), who, after being bitten by a black wolf in Vermont, begins to experience heightened senses, increased vitality, and aggressive behavior. As he is replaced at work by his ambitious protégé Stewart Swinton (James Spader), Will discovers Stewart's affair with his wife Charlotte (Kate Nelligan). In a fit of rage, Will bites Stewart, initiating a series of events tied to his transformation into a werewolf. Seeking help, Will consults Dr. Vijav Alezais (Om Puri), who explains the nature of his metamorphosis and provides an amulet to suppress it. Meanwhile, Will falls for Laura Alden (Michelle Pfeiffer), daughter of the new company owner Raymond Alden (Christopher Plummer). The situation escalates when Stewart, also beginning to transform, kills Charlotte and attempts to assault Laura. In a climactic battle, Will defeats Stewart and disappears into the New England woods, leaving Laura with the implication that she too may be undergoing a transformation. The film explores themes of human nature, the struggle against primal instincts, and corporate greed, blending drama, horror, and romance.
