A 2011 British two-part television series directed by Miranda Bowen and written by William Ivory, this adaptation combines D.H. Lawrence's novels "The Rainbow" (1915) and "Women in Love" (1920), originally intended by the author as a single work. The narrative focuses on the lives of two sisters, Ursula (Rachael Stirling) and Gudrun Brangwen (Rosamund Pike), residing in England on the eve of World War I. Ursula, a schoolteacher, becomes involved with Rupert Birkin (Rory Kinnear), an intellectual seeking spiritual connection, while Gudrun, an artist, engages in a tumultuous relationship with wealthy industrialist Gerald Crich (Joseph Mawle), whose inner turmoil leads to tragic outcomes. The series delves into themes of love, passion, freedom, and societal norms, juxtaposing rationality and emotion, masculinity and femininity. Filmed in South Africa, the production offers a distinctive visual atmosphere. The cast also includes Saskia Reeves (Anna Brangwen), Ben Daniels (Will Brangwen), Olivia Grant (Hermione Roddice), among others. It premiered on BBC Four on March 24 and 31, 2011.
