Aquarium keeping

Is the practice of maintaining a closed aquatic ecosystem designed to house ornamental fish, aquatic plants, and other freshwater or marine inhabitants. The origins of aquarium keeping trace back to Ancient China and Mesopotamia, where people were interested in breeding fish in artificial ponds, but the modern glass aquarium began to take shape in the 19th century in the United Kingdom with the advancement of biology and chemistry. In the 1850s, the first public aquarium was built in London. Aquarium keeping involves a wide range of skills: from choosing the appropriate size and type of aquarium (freshwater, saltwater, nano, biotope, etc.), selecting compatible fish and plant species, to managing filtration, lighting, heating, aeration systems, and monitoring water pH and cleanliness. This practice requires regular maintenance, observation of behavior and health of inhabitants, and understanding of biological processes such as the nitrogen cycle. Aquarium keeping can be both a hobby and a professional pursuit: from participating in international exhibitions and aquascaping contests to scientific projects and commercial breeding of rare species. The aesthetic aspect — designing underwater landscapes — is closely tied to art and includes styles such as Dutch, Japanese aquascaping, nature aquariums, and more. Aquarium keeping fosters attention to detail, discipline, ecological thinking, and can have therapeutic benefits by reducing stress and creating a calming atmosphere.
