An American black comedy from 2014, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Michael Keaton plays Riggan Thomson, an actor whose fame came from playing the superhero Birdman. He wants that popularity back and stages a Broadway production of "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love," adapted from the Raymond Carver short story. Trouble mounts in his personal and professional life, and Riggan wrestles with his own demons and with the voice of Birdman, the sound of his ego and his past fame. During the preparation for the premiere, he encounters difficulties, including replacing an actor with Mike Shiner (Edward Norton), a talented but challenging individual. His daughter Sam (Emma Stone), recently out of rehab, works as his assistant, and their relationship is strained. His ex-wife Sylvia (Amy Ryan) supports him despite past disagreements. The cast also includes Lesley (Naomi Watts), who dreams of Broadway success, and Laura (Andrea Riseborough), with whom Riggan has a romantic involvement. The film explores themes of self-identity, ego struggle, criticism, and the search for meaning in art. Filmed to appear as a single continuous shot, it creates a sense of uninterrupted action. The film received critical acclaim and won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.
