The 2018 American science fiction horror film directed by Darin Scott serves as a stand-alone sequel to the 1999 film and the second installment in the series. The story centers on pharmaceutical billionaire Carl Durant (Michael Beach), who funds secret research to enhance the intelligence of bull sharks aiming to develop a cure for Alzheimer's disease. He invites shark conservationist Dr. Misty Calhoun (Danielle Savre) to consult on the project, withholding the full extent of the experiments. In an isolated underwater laboratory, the team, including shark trainer Trent Slater (Rob Mayes), faces the consequences of genetic modifications: the sharks become aggressive and start attacking the staff. The situation worsens when one shark, Bella, is discovered to be pregnant, and her offspring exhibit even more aggression. As the facility deteriorates, the survivors attempt to reach the surface, confronting betrayal, escalating chaos, and deadly predators. The film explores themes of scientific ethics, human greed, and the consequences of tampering with nature, blending elements of intense thriller and horror. Despite being a direct continuation of the original, the film received mixed reviews and was released directly to video.
