He began his career in 2001 as an actor, portraying Jimmy Brooks in the teen drama series "Degrassi: The Next Generation," where he remained until 2009. Concurrently, he pursued music, releasing his debut mixtape "Room for Improvement" in 2006, followed by "Comeback Season" (2007) and "So Far Gone" (2009). The latter brought him mainstream recognition with hits like "Best I Ever Had" and "Successful," leading to a record deal with Young Money Entertainment in 2009.
