A 2011 American drama directed by Stephen Daldry and written by Eric Roth, based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. The story follows 11-year-old Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn), an exceptionally intelligent and sensitive boy coping with the loss of his father (Tom Hanks), who died in the September 11 attacks in New York City. Upon discovering a mysterious key in an envelope labeled "Black" in his father's closet, Oskar believes it's a final puzzle left by his father and embarks on a journey across the city to find the lock it opens. Along the way, he encounters a variety of individuals, including a mute elderly man (Max von Sydow) who assists him in his quest, and reconnects with his mother (Sandra Bullock), who is dealing with her grief in her own way. The film delves into themes of loss, memory, childhood trauma, and the search for meaning in tragedy. Despite mixed critical reviews, the film received two Academy Award nominations: Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Max von Sydow.
