The 1997 American science fiction film directed by Andrew Niccol presents a dystopian society divided into "valids" and "in-valids" based on genetic predisposition. The plot centers on Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke), an "in-valid" born naturally, with a predicted lifespan of 30 years due to congenital defects, including a heart condition and myopia. Despite this, he dreams of becoming an astronaut and traveling to space. Vincent makes an arrangement with Jerome Eugene Morrow (Jude Law), a "valid" whose stellar genetic potential was marred by an accident that left him paralyzed. Jerome provides Vincent with his blood, urine, and other biomaterials, allowing him to deceive the system and secure a job at the Gattaca Corporation. There, Vincent meets Irene Cassini (Uma Thurman), a "valid" with a genetic defect hindering her own space aspirations. A romantic relationship develops between them. When a murder occurs at Gattaca, the investigation is led by Vincent's brother, Anton (Loren Dean), a "valid" who has been in lifelong competition with Vincent. Anton suspects Vincent, but Vincent overcomes all obstacles, proving his ability to surpass genetic limitations. The film raises questions about human potential, discrimination, and willpower, contrasting genetic determinism with personal aspirations.
