The Bad Batch

A 2016 American dystopian thriller directed by Ana Lily Amirpour. The story unfolds in a post-apocalyptic Texas desert, where the government exiles individuals deemed undesirable, referred to as "the bad batch." The protagonist, a young woman named Arlen (Suki Waterhouse), finds herself in this unforgiving environment and is soon captured by a group of cannibals led by the charismatic Miami Man (Jason Momoa). While in captivity, Arlen endures horrific ordeals, including the amputation of her arm and leg, but manages to deceive her captors and escape using a skateboard for mobility. In the desert, she is discovered by a mysterious mute hermit (Jim Carrey), who leads her to an improvised settlement called Comfort. This community of survivors, governed by the enigmatic leader Rockwell (Keanu Reeves), offers its inhabitants an illusion of safety and stability by organizing nightly raves and providing minimal living conditions. Five months later, having adapted to life in Comfort and equipped with prosthetics, Arlen ventures into the desert, where she encounters a woman and a young girl named Honey (Jayda Fink) scavenging for food. Suspecting the woman of being affiliated with the cannibals, Arlen kills her and takes Honey back to Comfort. Miami Man, Honey's father, sets out to find his daughter and, following the trail, discovers Comfort. A complex dynamic develops between Arlen and Miami Man, intertwined with themes of survival, morality, and the search for humanity in a brutal world. The film explores the boundaries between good and evil, illustrating how circumstances can alter moral perceptions and compel individuals to reassess their values.
