The Giver

A 2014 American dystopian drama film directed by Phillip Noyce, based on Lois Lowry's 1993 novel of the same name. Set in a society that has survived a calamity known as "the Ruin," emotions are suppressed, and memories of the past are held solely by one individual—the Receiver of Memory. The protagonist, a young man named Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), is selected as the new Receiver and begins training with the previous Receiver, known as the Giver (Jeff Bridges). Through his training, Jonas discovers colors, emotions, and concepts long forgotten by society, realizing that their world lacks true feelings and freedom of choice. He faces a moral dilemma: to continue living in an artificially created utopia or to attempt to restore lost emotions and freedom to humanity.
